Turkish citizens finished voting in local elections on Sunday to elect mayors for cities and districts, city council members, and non-partisan 'muhtars' for villages and neighborhoods from 26 different parties.

Turkish citizens finished voting in local elections on Sunday to elect mayors for cities and districts, city council members, and non-partisan 'muhtars' for villages and neighborhoods from 26 different parties.

Voters in provinces of Adiyaman, Agri, Artvin, Bingol, Bitlis, Diyarbakir, Elazıg, Erzincan, Erzurum, Gaziantep, Giresun, Gumushane, Hakkari, Kars, Malatya, Kahramanmaras, Mardin, Mus, Ordu, Rize, Siirt, Sivas, Trabzon, Tunceli, Sanliurfa, Van, Bayburt, Batman, Sirnak, Ardahan, Igdir and Kilis began to vote at 7am, which continued to 4 pm.

The electorate in other 49 provinces in the country began casting their votes at 8am and were be able to cast till 5pm.

Over 52 million electors made up of 27 million women and 26 million men cast their votes at nearly 200,000 ballot boxes across the country.
