Protests were held in Turkish capital of Ankara last night over the recent municipal elections, the Turkish newspaper Milliyet reported on April 1.

The protests were held in front of the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Turkey.

Republican People's Party (CHP) supporters expressed discontent over the victory of a ruling party member in the municipal elections, according to the report.

It is expected that protests in front of the CEC in Ankara will resume today.

The municipal elections were held in Turkey on March 30. As a result, the ruling Justice and Development Party won with 45.6 percent of the votes.

The number of registered voters in Turkey is 52,695,831 people. Out of them, some 26,704,757 people are women and 25,991,075 people are men.

Some 194,310 ballot boxes were installed throughout the country and 26 political parties participated in the municipal elections.
