Iranian Minister of Communications and Information Technology invited advanced countries telecom companies to offer consultations and proposals for making investments in Iranian telecommunications field.
Mahmoud Vaezi who is attending sixth International Telecommunication Union (ITU) World Telecommunication Development Conference in Dubai said that that the two-week conference at ministerial level is commissioned to draft the next four-year plan for the worlds telecommunications development, Iranian IRNA news agency reported on April 1.
In this conference in addition to the telecom ministers of various countries who present their countries viewpoints and their own stands, there are various committees which are commissioned to devise the next four-year plan for the world telecom development, the minister added.
Vaezi said that Iran demanded the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) to plan for the broader development of the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) to ensure the future development of the world telecommunications.
This conference must pay special attention to the developing countries, since today the ICT is considered as an infrastructure for comprehensive development, he underlined.
Vaezi said that at the end of the conference a statement will be issued on ways for increasing the bandwidths for the mobile phones and the internet connections.
Iran's clear proposal in this conference was that there should not be a wide gap between the rich and the poor countries, the less developed and the developed countries in ICT field and the developed countries should assist the developing countries in filling that gap, Vaezi emphasized.
He said that the Iranian telecommunications ministry does not intend to shoulder the job of managing the telecom development directly on the one hand, and wished that the country will be benefited from the technology and the consultations of the technologically advanced countries, which is why we welcome proposals in the field.
Vaezi said that in order to have an intelligent government, intelligent academic system, and intelligent cities, we need to develop the ICT infrastructure in our country.
He also spoke about the meetings he has had with the ICT ministers of the different countries, like Azerbaijan, Pakistan, Nigeria, China, Mali, Malaysia, Tunisia, Burkina Faso and Palestine on the sidelines of the conference, consulting with them about supporting Iran's candidates in the ITU and the RRB councils and various other issues.
More than 1,600 delegates are in Dubai to discuss the future of broadband connectivity as part of the sixth International Telecommunication Union (ITU) World Telecommunication Development Conference, which is held every four years.
Under the theme of Broadband for Sustainable Development, the two-week conference, which begins today at the Dubai World Trade Centre, will focus on the development priorities and strategies for growth in telecoms, information and communication (ICT) technologies.
The outcome of the conference will set the agenda for the telecoms and ICT development of the ITU for the next four years.
Access to broadband could be a catalyst to lift developing countries out of poverty by providing access to health care, education and basic social services to all communities, according to the UN Broadband Commission for Digital Development.
Delegations are in town to discuss 74 proposals that have been put forward by member states.
