Azerbaijan has improved its position in the Global Enabling Trade Index by four steps and ranked 77th, a report of the World Economic Forum (WEF) said on April 1.

The Global Enabling Trade report 2014 issued by WEF covered some 138 countries. The report is based on the Enabling Trade Index (ETI) and takes into account four indexes: Market access, Border administration, Operating environment and Transport and Communication infrastructure.

Azerbaijan ranked 81st when the ETI was last published in 2012.

This year, Azerbaijan ranked 66th on the market access index and 94th on the border administration index. The country took the 58th position on the operating environment index and 45th position on the infrastructure level.

The report also points out the successes achieved by the country in the sphere of measures on trade facilitation, as well as in other spheres.

Azerbaijan ranked 39th on the Customs transparency index; Ease of compliance with government regulation index - 19th; Openness to foreign participation index - 34th; Ease of hiring foreign labor availability index - 30th; Business costs of crime and violence - 20th; Quality of transport infrastructure index - 45th; Quality of air transport infrastructure - 46th; Quality of railroad infrastructure - 35th; Efficiency of transport mode change - 43rd ; ICT use for business-to-business transactions - 46th and Internet use for business-to-consumer transactions index - 50th.

Moreover, the country held the following positions on additional indexes: the number of the documents needed for import - 126th; the cost to import, (calculated in U.S. dollars per container) - 127th; the number of documents to export - 121st, cost to export (calculated in U.S. dollars per container) - 134th; logistics competence - 134th and judicial efficiency and impartiality in commercial disputes - 106th.

The results of the report show that Singapore leads the global enabling trade ranking, Hong Kong ranked second and the Netherlands third. The U.S. ranked 15th among 138 countries covered by the report.

Georgia held the best position in the region in the global enabling trade index ranking 36th. Ukraine ranked 83rd, Moldova - 92nd, Kazakhstan - 94th, Russia - 105th and Kyrgyzstan ranked 109th. Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and, Turkmenistan are not covered by the report.
