Georgian government approved the national strategy for protection of human rights on Friday.

The document envisages defining priorities for protection of human rights in 2014-2020.

The strategy was submitted to the parliament to be reviewed, after which the government will adopt a detailed action plan.

"It will include detailed steps to be taken by various government bodies, for the different aspects of human rights protection to be met. There are many talks about the creation of new structures and strengthening them," Georgian prime minister's adviser on human rights Tamar Chugoshvili said. "It is especially important to strengthen the public defender's activity in anti-discrimination and tolerance areas, and in the protection of personal data. The strategy itself reflects general principles, but concrete steps will be scheduled in terms of the action plan."

Chugoshvili said the entire state apparatus has an obligation to respect human rights.
