Mass protest actions are taking place in several Turkish cities against the death sentences in Egypt, Turkish Anadolu agency reported on April 14.

The protests are going on in the cities of Bursa, Hatay, Mardin, Istanbul, Antalya, Bingol and Malatya, according to the agency.

The demonstrators demand the Egyptian government to abolish the death penalty, to which the members of the Muslim Brotherhood organization have been sentenced, according to Anadolu agency.

The Egyptian court sentenced some 529 members of the Muslim Brotherhood movement to death in March. They are accused of murder, attempted murder, assault on a police station and other crimes.

For its part, the European Union called this sentence unacceptable.

"Despite the serious nature of the crimes for which they were convicted, the death penalty can not be justified," the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton earlier said.

Earlier, Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that the mass death sentence in Egypt is a mistake and urged it to abolish this decision.
