Georgia, Armenia to be linked by high-voltage power line

Tbilisi, Georgia, April 17

By Nana Kirtzkhalia - Trend:

Georgia and Armenia will be linked by a 500-kilovolt power transmission line.

Georgian and Armenian Energy Ministries' representatives signed an agreement in Tbilisi with regard to construction of a new transmission line, according to a message from the Georgian State Electrosystem (GSE).

The new power line will replace the existing 400-kilovolt power transmission line.

Under the agreement the Armenian side will install costly modern high-tech equipment, which will increase the power transmission lines' capacity.

Georgian side, in turn, will build a 40-kilometer long section of the transmission line.

"The construction of the new power line between Georgia and Armenia is important for increasing the capacity of both countries' power systems, improving energy independence and sustainability," said the message of the head of the GSE management board Sulkhan Zumburidze.
