Tbilisi, Georgia, April 21

The possibility of holding a meeting between Russian and Georgian presidents was discussed in Prague, Czech Republic, on April 17.

The issue was mulled by Georgian PM's Special Envoy on Relations with Russia Zurab Abashidze and Russian First Deputy FM Grigory Karasin.

Speaking to the Georgian First Channel (1TV) on Monday, Zurab Abashidze confirmed that such a possibility was discussed during the meeting in Prague.

However, he said this issue was not discussed in details, since there should be a serious preparatory work prior to the presidents' meeting.

During the Sochi Olympics, Russian President Vladimir Putin said he wishes to meet with Georgian President Giorgi Margvelashvili.

Tbilisi currently does not have any diplomatic relations with Moscow, following tensions and a conflict which broke out in Georgia's South Ossetia on August 8, 2008.

Russian troops entered Tskhinvali and expelled the Georgian military. Later, Russia recognized the independence of South Ossetia and Abkhazia.

In response, Tbilisi ended diplomatic relations with Moscow and called the two unrecognized republics of Abkhazia and South Ossetia occupied territories.
