Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov received Tajik Ambassador Abdurahim Ashur, who is completing his diplomatic mission in Turkmenistan.

"Over the recent years the Turkmen-Tajik dialogue reached a new level meeting the mutual interests, which is also indicated by important agreements and visible progress in realization of large-scale joint projects," Turkmen government said on April 23.

The meeting also stressed "the closeness or similarity of the two countries' positions on key aspects of international and regional politics, as well as their focus on all-round expansion of traditional ties."

Earlier it was reported that Turkmen president planned to make an official visit to Dushanbe in the near future.

Tajikistan faces a shortage of energy resources, which are supplied by Turkmenistan, the largest energy recourses supplier in Central Asia.

Tajikistan is also interested in increasing the purchase of petroleum products from Turkmenistan.

Aside from that, the construction of Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Tajikistan (TAT) railway started last year.
