Iranian, Turkmen and Uzbek railway administrations’ heads to meet

Baku, Azerbaijan, April 26

By Temkin Jafarov - Trend:

Iran's capital of Tehran will host a trilateral meeting between the heads of Iranian, Turkmen and Uzbek railway administrations on April 27, Iran's IRNA agency said Saturday.

The meeting will discuss improvement of cooperation between the three countries in the railway sector.

A project for linking the railways on the Kazakh-Turkmen border was launched in May 2013.

Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan have been implementing the 'North-South' project jointly with Iran since 2007.

Currently, works are underway to link the railways of Iran and Turkmenistan.

This regional project will open up an access for European and Asian countries to Central Asia and the Persian Gulf.

Aside from that the construction of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Tajikistan railway was launched last year. This railway can also be joined by China, Kyrgyzstan and Iran.
