Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov will pay an official visit to Tajikistan from May 5 to May 6, a message from Tajikistan's Foreign Ministry said on May 2.

A package of documents in the spheres of transport, education, culture and tourism will be signed during the visit, according to the ministry's message.

Berdimuhamedov will have a meeting with Tajikistan's President Emomali Rahmon during his visit and the parties will adopt a joint communiqué, the Tajikistan's Foreign Ministry said.

"Tajikistan expects the visit of the friendly country's head to strengthen the bilateral relations, mutual understanding and mutual support between the two countries, as well as to solidify the cooperation in various spheres of mutual interest," the message from the ministry said.

Tajik Foreign Ministry also added that this visit will give more impetus to intensification of the two countries' relations.

Diplomatic relations between Turkmenistan and Tajikistan were established on Jan.27, 1993.

The total trade turnover between the two countries stood at $119.3 million in 2013, according to the data received from Tajikistan's Foreign Ministry.

Tajikistan buys oil, refined cottonseed oil, cement from Turkmenistan, while Turkmenistan imports consumer goods, aluminum and other agricultural products from Tajikistan.

The main areas of cooperation between the two countries are energy, transport, agriculture and others.

Presidents of Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Afghanistan signed a trilateral memorandum on construction of Tajikistan-Afghanistan-Turkmenistan (TAT) railway in March 2013.

The implementation of this project will be the main part of the international transportations between the Asian countries, the message from Tajik Foreign Ministry said.
