The president of Sierra Leone Ernest Bai Koroma has announced that he plans to visit Iran to talk on boosting mutual ties as soon as possible.

Sierra Leone is keen to hand over its development projects to Iranian companies, Ernest Bai Koroma said, Iranian Fars news agency reported on May 3.

Bai Koroma made the remarks during the visit of the Iranian delegation to the Sierra Leone's capital of Freetow on May 2.

Iranian delegation including experts from the country's oil and energy ministries is in Sierra Leone to study implementation of signed contracts on joint development projects.

Earlier in February a high-ranking delegation from Sierra Leon headed by the country's justice minister Franklyn Bai Kargbo visited Iran to study new way for consolidating mutual cooperation between Tehran and Freetown.

The Sierra Leone envoy called for the participation of Iranian companies in Sierra Leone's development projects, especially in the energy and housing sectors during the meetings with Iranian officials.

Over the past years, Iran has defined a special priority on its agenda to boost relations with African states.

In December 2013, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Amir Abdollahian said the Islamic Republic attaches great significance to the expansion of all-out relations with African countries.

In July 2013, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani stressed the importance of bilateral relations with African countries for the Islamic Republic.
