Kazakh president proposes to expand integration processes in Central Asia

By Daniyar Mukhtarov - Trend:

Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev believes the integration processes should be expanded in Central Asia.

"We all need to expand the borders of cooperation both between the Asian countries and other integration associations. The regional integration, based on the principles of openness, equality and mutual benefit, is a reliable tool for successful development.

Today, we see the strengthening of the regional integration within the Asian-Pacific region, and the active expansion of the economic integration in Southeast Asia," the president stressed.

"Kazakhstan continues its activity aimed at creating the Eurasian Union which includes Russia and Belarus. We have already integrated within the Customs Union and it brings considerable benefits. Thus, we intend to intensify and expand our interactions. With the market possessing as many as 170 million consumers, we believe that this initiative has great potential," Nazarbayev added.

The revival of the Great Silk Road can be included in the overall integration processes, according to the president.

"Currently, we see the next stage of revival of the Great Silk Road. And I'm confident that it will mark the new era of Asia's development, since there are a number of preconditions for this," Nazarbayev stressed.

"Being located in a unique position in Central Asia, at the junction of Europe and Asia, our country is ready to bind them together, enhancing the region's synergy and creating all the necessary conditions for such integration. The fate of future economic growth and prosperity in the region is in our hands. We all need to consolidate our efforts in the forced economic development of our countries," Nazarbayev added.
