The willingness of assisting Afghanistan's social-economic development was stressed in the joint statement of Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and Tajik President Emomali Rahmon.

"The presidents stressed the need to intensify cooperation in resolving regional issues, in particular, by making joint actions to assist Afghanistan's socio-economic development," according to the Turkmen leader's document signed during the visit in Dushanbe on May 5-6.

The parties also stressed the significance of the Tajikistan-Afghanistan-Turkmenistan (TAT) project implementation which is one of the large transport projects in the region.

The leaders of the countries recognized the importance of taking joint measures to widely use the potential of their countries to create new transport corridors. This is observed in the context of prospects for the development of transport and communication network in Central Asia and its effective integration into the international transport infrastructure, according to the statement.

Earlier it was reported that in the future China, Iran and Kyrgyzstan may join the TAT railway corridor project implemented since June 2013. The 400 kilometer TAT must be commissioned in 2015, according to the plans.

This route will open a new corridor among Central Asia and global markets through the sea ports to the Indian Ocean.
