Former head of the Iranian committee for transportation and fuel management was arrested.

Mohammad Reza Rouyanian was arrested by Iranian police due to his involvement in a corruption case in the committee, Iranian IRNA news agency reported on May 6.

Earlier in April Iran's Prosecutor General, Gholam Hossein Mohseni-Ejehei announced that three people are under arrest due to their involvement in the case.

Rouyanian earlier was summoned by the judiciary to respond to the charges.

No further details have been released about the details of the issue.

Rouyanian was the head of the committee for transportation and fuel management from 2007 to 2011, during the administration of ex-president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. Before that, he was commissioner of the City of Tehran Transportation Police. He was also the chairman of the famous Iranian Persepolis football Club from September 2011 until his resignation in January 2014.
