Georgian National Bank leaves monetary policy rate unchanged

Tbilisi, Georgia, May 8

By Nana Kirtzkhalia - Trend:

The monetary policy committee of the Georgian National Bank decided to leave the monetary policy rate unchanged, the Georgian National Bank told Trend on May 7.

The figure is 4.0 percent.

The committee decided to gradually leave the soft monetary policy at a meeting in February. The committee is based on the macroeconomic forecast and analysis of existing risks for the price stabilization while formulating the monetary policy.

The committee continues to believe that there is a need to leave a soft position amid the sound economic activity and the expected growth rate of inflation, which is gradually approaching the target index.

Although the recent geopolitical risks include uncertainty for the economic sphere, at this stage, the committee decided to leave the monetary policy rate unchanged.

The next meeting of the monetary policy committee will be held on June 18, 2014.
