Kyrgyzstan, Turkey discuss perspectives for bilateral cooperation

Prospects for development of Kyrgyz-Turkish relations were discussed during the meeting of Turkey's Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan and his Kyrgyz colleague Djoomart Otorbaev, Kabar news agency reported referring to Kyrgyz government's statement.

Kyrgyzstan's Prime Minister, who is on an official visit to Turkey, expressed condolences to his Turkish conterpart during the meeting, regarding the recent mine accident in Turkey.

On May 13 Turkey suffered a deadly mine accident, as a result of which over 280 people died. Following the accident, the country announced a three day mourning period for the victims of the disaster.

Erdogan and Otorbaev further discussed the current state of Kyrgyz-Turkish relations and the perspectives for their further development, in particular in cultural-humanitarian, socio-economic and military-technical spheres.

They also stressed that close contacts and trusting relationships between the leaders of the two countries play an important role in the development of bilateral cooperation.

Otorbaev noted that Kyrgyzstan attaches great importance to the issue of maintaining the steady dialogue at the highest level between the leadership of both countries.

It was noted that the sides have reached a high level of political dialogue.

The sides also agreed on an intensive inter-departmental cooperation, as well as increasing the number of mutual visits at the ministerial level.

Otorbaev stressed that forthcoming third session of the Supreme Council of the strategic cooperation to be held on June 3, is considered by Kyrgyzstan as another important step towards the consolidation of bilateral strategic partnership. The sides are currently developing a joint agenda of the event.

The sides also agreed on the need to take further concrete measures to enhance and intensify trade and economic relations, a significant increase in turnover, developing
investment cooperation.

In particular, it was proposed to intensify efforts to develop and implement major joint projects in such areas as hydropower, transport and communications, tourism.
