Iran says safeguarding the rights of the Iranian nation is Tehran's red line in the talks over its nuclear energy program.

Abbas Araqchi rejected the calls to limit the power of the Arak heavy water reactor from 40 megawatts to 10, calling them ludicrous.

Iran's deputy foreign minister made the comments at a televised interview, Iran's Mehr News Agency reported on May 18.

"Uranium enrichment is one of Iran's nuclear rights, which must be respected," he said.

Araqchi, who is also a senior nuclear negotiator, went on to note that no power is capable of limiting the scientific advances of Iran's nuclear program.

"The nuclear negotiations are tough but are moving on the right track," he said.

"A final deal can be reached if the other side shows good will and adopts a realistic attitude," he added.
