The spokesperson of the Iranian foreign ministry Marzieh Afkham said that the country is continues to look for its missing former deputy defense minister, Brigadier General Alireza Asgari.

While responding a question about rumours claiming Asgari being held in the US, Afkham said that Iran has already expressed concerns over abduction of Asgari in Turkey, Iranian state IRINN TV reported on May 20.

Afkham made the remarks during her weekly press conference in foreign ministry in Tehran.

The spokeswoman went on to say that Iran still is following the issue of Asgari's abduction through the international organizations.

Asgari disappeared in early 2007 during a visit to Turkey. Iranian officials accuse western intelligence services of kidnapping him.

Asgari served in the Iranian government until early 2005 under then-president Mohammad Khatami.

Western media outlets claim that Asgari was commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps(IRGC) in Lebanon In the 1980's and during the 1990's he was the top Iranian intelligence official in Lebanon, where he worked with the Shia militant group Hezbollah.
