President of Georgia, Giorgi Margvelashvili met with the Georgian Central Election Commission (CEC) Chairman Tamar Zhvania, on May 21.

Following the meeting the president told journalists that he thanked Tamar Zhvania for holding the 2013 presidential election "very well".

"I said that I, and those abroad, are proud of the election's results and this greatly facilitates our relations with foreign partners," Margvelashvili said. "At the same time, the results of these elections are very important within the country as well, as the public became convinced that there may be a legitimate change in government."

He went on to add that the CEC and the election administration are the most important guarantors of this.

"We then discussed the existing situation. Naturally, we want the local elections not to lag behind the presidential elections' standards, and to be held even at a higher level," Margvelashvili said.

He also said the meeting also discussed the existing problems, one of which was holding the elections in accordance with the highest democratic standards.
