Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili observed the construction of the Marabda-Akhalkalaki-Kartsakhi railway section of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway. Garibashvili inspected the ongoing construction and reconstruction work together with director general of the Marabda -Kartsakhi railway company Oleg Bichiashvili.

"The project is carried out without any problems and disruptions," he said. "It will be completed as scheduled."

It was stressed that as a result of implementing the project, the trade turnover and transit revenue will increase. This will serve as a great incentive for economic growth.

The Baku-Kars-Kartsakhi railway project aims to develop the corridor between Asia and Europe.

The rehabilitation and reconstruction of a 180 kilometer Marabda-Akhalkalaki railway segment was taken into account.

The construction of the Marabda-Kartsakhi section of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway began in 2008. It is planned to be tested in late 2014.

Turkey has recently urged Georgia to intensify construction of the Georgian railway section.
