The spokeswoman of the Iranian foreign ministry, Marziyeh Afkham has called holding a calm presidential election in Ukraine as a positive step for peace, stability and security in the country.

Afkham expressed hope that election of new president in Ukraine will end political crisis and establish peace and national reconciliation in the country, Iran's official IRNA news agency reported on May 27.

Extraordinary presidential elections in Ukraine have taken place on May 25. Petr Poroshenko, 48 years old, was elected as new president of the country.

Poroshenko reiterated at a news conference in Kiev that European integration would be his priority.
