Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili met with German Chancellor Angela Merkel.
The meeting was held after an official ceremony, the Prime Minister's office said.
Garibashvili thanked the Chancellor for the official invitation and stressed the importance of the visit in terms of strengthening relations between the two countries.
"Germany actively supports the policy of non-recognition of separatist regions," he said. "It was possible to neutralize the threats several times."
The sides discussed the conflicts in Georgia and the ways of their peaceful settlement.
Garibashvili informed the Chancellor about the Georgian government's actions to de-escalate the relations with Russia.
The reforms implemented in Georgia and the achieved results were also discussed. Satisfaction was expressed that Georgia will sign an association agreement with the EU on June 27.
Large scale military action was launched between Georgia and Russia in South Ossetia on August 8, 2008.
Later, Russian troops occupied Tskhinvali and expelled the Georgian military.
Russia recognized the independence of South Ossetia and Abkhazia in late August.
In response, Tbilisi ended diplomatic relations with Moscow and has called the two unrecognized republics of Abkhazia and South Ossetia occupied territories.
