Iran and Oman plan to expand their relations in the agriculture and fishery sectors.

The issue was discussed at a meeting between Iranian Agricultural Jihand Deputy Minister Hassan Salehi, and Oman's minister of Agriculture & Fisheries, Fuad Jaffer Al Sajwani in Tehran, Iran's Mehr News Agency reported on June 8.

During the meeting, the two sides stressed on the need for expansion of economic ties between the two neighboring states.

The trade value between Iran and Oman in the 12-month period which ended on March 20 was around $588 million.

Tehran's exports o Muscat accounted for $145.1 million of the mentioned amount.

Iran also imported over $441.7 million worth of goods from Oman.
The Omani Sultan Qaboos paid an official visit to Iran in late August 2013 as the first head of state to visit Tehran after President Rouhani was inaugurated in a ceremony on August 4.

Oman was also the first country in the Persian Gulf to be visited by President Rouhani after he assumed office in August 2013.

Iran and Oman, which share control of the strategic Strait of Hormuz, maintain cordial relations.
