Georgia's armed forces have joined a peacemaking mission, held under the auspices of the European Union.

Defense Ministry of Georgia said on June 10 that soldiers of the Separate Batumi Light Infantry Battalion have already departed for the Central African Republic (CAR).

The soldiers were seen off on Tuesday by the Deputy Chief of the Armed Forces' General Staff, Colonel Roman Jokhadze. He wished the soldiers to successfully carry out the mission and return home.

During six months the soldiers took part in the peacemaking operations in Afghanistan as part of the American contingent. They underwent additional training for the EU mission at the national training center 'Ktsanisi'.

The two-month trainings include patrolling, construction of checkpoints, protection of base and ensuring security in the activity zone. The exercises were also joined by two French officers.

Georgian soldiers will carry out the mission in the CAR capital of Bangui.

They will patrol the adjacent areas of an airport.

A total of 146 military men set off for the CAR.
