Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov has received the chairman of Saudi Arabia's Majlis Al-Shura, Abdullah bin Mohammed bin Ibrahim Al-Sheikh, a message from the Turkmen government said on June 10.

The distinguished guest conveyed the greetings of the King Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz Al-Saud and stressed that Saudi Arabia is interested in comprehensive development of constructive dialogue with the independent and neutral Turkmenistan.

Berdimuhamedov, for his part, underscored that the intensification of the relations with the Middle Eastern countries, including Saudi Arabia is one of the foreign policy priorities of his country.

The two sides praised the level of the interstate cooperation that primarily develops in the fuel and energy sector, in the spheres of investments, trade and culture.

The diplomatic relations between Turkmenistan and Saudi Arabia were established in 1992.

Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov paid the first official visit to Saudi Arabia in April 2007. A general cooperation agreement was signed during this visit. The two countries are exploring the partnership opportunities in the fields of fuel and energy , cement and other construction material production, as well as agriculture, animal husbandry, cultivation of grain and forage crops.
