Divorce rate in Azerbaijan stood at 1.2 percent per 1,000 people as of 2012, which indicates a low divorce level, according to a report by Rashida Manjoo, UN special rapporteur on violence against women, its causes and consequences.
The report was published on the website of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, and was compiled following Rashida Manjoo's visit to Azerbaijan between November 26 and December 5, 2013.
The reasons for early marriages in Azerbaijan include the parents' concerns over their daughters' future, existing traditions and the girls' desire to marry, according to the report.
The families' economic conditions stood at the last place among the early marriages' causes.
