Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Amir-Abdollahian said his country will support Iraq against its fight with terrorism.

"We are sure that Iraqi security forces will defeat the takfiris and terrorists," he said, Iran's IRNA News Agency reported.

He further condemned seizure of Turkish consulate in Mosul by the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL).

Some 49 Turkish citizens from the consulate - staff members and their families, including three children - are being held hostage in Mosul.

Hundreds of ISIL members attacked the city of Mosul in Nineveh province on Tuesday and seized it.

A number of Iraqi soldiers were also captured there, and some were reportedly executed by the militants.
