Kazakhstan and the U.S. reiterated the mutual intention to strengthen comprehensive strategic partnership and develop priority areas of bilateral relations, according to the Kazakh Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The report notes that during the visit to the United States the Kazakh Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Yerzhan Ashikbaev held a meeting with the leadership of the State Department, Congress, the Ministries of Defense and Energy, as well as with representatives of the expert and business circles.
The intention to develop priority areas of bilateral relations, in particular within promotion of Kazakhstan's candidacy for non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for 2017-2018 years, as well as trade and investment, military-technical cooperation, cooperation in the field of new technologies, energy was confirmed during the talks with U.S. officials, the report said. Furthermore, the parties discussed the issue of U.S. participation in the EXPO 2017 international exhibition.
During the meetings, the U.S. side expressed appreciation for the Kazakhstan`s support for the efforts of stabilization of the situation in Afghanistan and regional development projects. Appreciation was expressed for the global leadership of Kazakhstan in the field of non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, the report said.
The exchange of views on the state and prospects of relations between Astana and Washington was held wit the U.S. congressmen, experts and the business community, the report said. Kazakhstan's achievements in the areas of economic development and enhancing of the independence, the success of a multi-vector foreign policy, the country's role in international and regional organizations, including the UN, OSCE and OIC were highly appreciated by the negotiating parties.
Kazakhstan, as no other country, deserves trust and is an appropriate candidate for non-permanent member of the UN Security Council, former U.S. Ambassador to Kazakhstan William Courtney said.
