The difficult socio-economic situation in Armenia is so unbearable that not only people, but also the animals are leaving the country.

Yerevans' Zoo was not able to provide healthy and bright future for its only elephant Grant, who has been suffering from tusks' disease for eight years.

Struggling with financial difficulties over the past years, the zoo has finally found some financial sources to send Grand to the neighboring Georgia. Tbilisi Zoo welcomed Grand on June 12, who will find not only health care but also a wife.

Grant will get married to the female elephant Malka, who is already ready for the upcoming wedding. Grand will not only marry, but will also undergo a surgery in Tbilisi.

Grant has lived at Yerevan's Zoo since 1999. It was Armenian children's beloved animal. Established in 1941, Yerevan Zoo is in badly need of renovation. It is still waiting for the financial support to turn into a modern zoological and botanical park.

Yerevan Zoo is unable to provide the necessary conditions for all its inhabitants - a similar situation in which the government of the country is struggling with. The government still lacks enough funds to improve the population's welfare. Meanwhile, it usually takes decisions which further worsen the Armenians' life.

Grant's life at Yerevan Zoo was similar to that of Armenians living in the country. The complicated socio-economic situation, high poverty, growing unemployment rate and absence of hope for a bright future are the main reasons behind the mass migration outflows.

A growing number of Armenians are leaving their homelands without a wish to return. About 30,000 to 35,000 people have left their homes each year from 2008 to 2013.

Some 71.000 people who left the country during the last two years have not yet returned to their homeland.

Like many Armenians, Grant emigrated from Armenia for a better future. Tbilisi Zoo will provide Yerevan Zoo with a new little elephant, who is 10 years younger than Grant.

Now, the time will show if Yerevan Zoo will be able to provide some favorable conditions for its new inhabitant or not.
