The action plan for Georgia for the three-year period after signing the association agreement with EU has been worked out, European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso said at the international investment conference in Tbilisi on June 13.

"Georgia has held important reforms in recent years and currently, the country is a leader among the participant states of the EU Eastern Partnership program. Nevertheless, Georgia is still much to do," he stressed.

Barroso pointed out that the association agreement with the EU is of great importance from the economic point of view.

He expressed hope that the Georgian government understands that it is an important step towards modernization of the country's economy.

Touching upon the upcoming municipal elections in Georgia, Barroso stressed that the EU expects the country to hold multi-party elections.

"We expect Georgia to hold multiparty elections. We hope that the municipal elections will be held in a free and transparent environment in the country," the European Commission president said.
