Georgia's Central Election Commission (CEC) has announced the preliminary results of the mayor elections.

The vote counting show that the second round of the mayor elections will be held in eight cities of the country, as none of the candidates gathered the required 50 percent plus one vote in these cities.

The second round will be held in Tbilisi, Rustavi, Mtskheta, Gori, Telavi, Ozurgeti, Batumi and Poti.

Only the mayors of four cities, namely, Ambrolauri, Akhaltsikhe, Kutaisi and Zugdidi, were elected as a result of the municipal elections held in Georgia on June 15.

The ruling Georgian Dream coalition is in the lead in all the cities.

The second round will also be held in 11 villages to elect the local administration heads.
