Cooperation in the energy sector will be one of the important topics of talks during Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov's two-day official visit to Hungary, to start on June 18, Turkmen government said.

"The important topics of the upcoming talks will include the cooperation in the energy sector, the interest in which is due both to Turkmenistan's huge hydrocarbon reserves, and the European community's ever-increasing interest in the supply of Turkmen gas," the government said.

Turkmenistan is actively promoting the idea of diversifying the delivery of its energy resources to the world, including to the European market.

"All these energy bridges that promise greater economic benefits for the participating countries, can be in the long term connected to the European pipeline system as well," state news agency Turkmen Dovlet Khabarlary (Turkmen State News) said in on of its commentaries.

A considerable package of documents, designed to significantly expand the cooperation scope, is being prepared for the signing. Diplomatic ties between Turkmenistan and Hungary were established in 1992. Hungarian President Pal Schmitt's official visit to Turkmenistan in November 2011 gave a special impetus to the development of cooperation.

"Turkmen leader's visit to Hungary is meant to give new strong impetus to the development of interstate dialogue, to specify general approaches to the further alignment of mutually beneficial cooperation given the maximum involvement of the accumulated experience in joint work and the rich resource and economic potential," the Neutral Turkmenistan newspaper wrote on June 18.

Hungary is interested in receiving Turkmen gas as part of the trans-national projects, and the construction of a pipeline through the bottom of the Caspian Sea to the shores of Azerbaijan, which is related to networks of Turkey and Europe, and is considered the most optimal variant.
