Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said that his country needs to put an end to the West's lies about Tehran's violations of human rights.

"The human rights issue is very important and Iran has some new ideas that should be heard in the international arenas," Zarif said, Iran's IRIB News Agency reported on June 24.

"Iran as an Islamic state pursues both its citizens' rights and the human rights in general," he said.

"We need to put an end to all the excuses the West makes over human rights issues," Zarif added.

Iran has constantly been criticized by western countries over its alleged violations of human rights.

The United Nations Human Rights Council passed a resolution against Iran in March.

Iran's ambassador to the United Nations Headquarters in Geneva has blasted the human rights resolution against the country as sign of a "dangerous and concerning" course of action.

Ambassador Mohsen Naziri-Asl further emphasized that the effort of a few countries that drafted the resolution is effectively intended to "impose their own standards on others and further widen the gap between countries," Press TV reported.
