The U.S. Deputy Secretary of Energy, Daniel Poneman and Kazakhstan's Oil and Gas Minister, Uzakbai Karabalin will discuss the development of such Kazakh oil and gas fields as Kashagan, Karachaganak and Tengiz.

"Today, I will have an opportunity to officially discuss some issues with Minister Karabalin. I have worked with his predecessor Sauat Mynbayev for many years. Therefore, I expect a new dialogue to start today," he said.

"Of course, we are interested in developing the Kashagan, Karachaganak and Tengiz fields and therefore, these issues will be discussed during the meeting today," Poneman added.

He underscored that the cooperation between the U.S. and Kazakhstan in the oil and gas sphere is an important issue; therefore, the U.S. government clearly understands the role of the company involved in developing the Kashagan field.

"In terms of national security, the governments of the U.S. and Kazakhstan would like the market to have a sufficient amount of oil and natural gas. Of course, the fact that as part of energy security, President Obama wants to persuade the energy ministers of G7 countries to meet and discuss these issues, and this adds something important to our upcoming meeting. Of course, Kazakhstan plays an important role in providing the market with oil and gas and the development of the Kashagan field reemphasizes this role," Poneman said.
