Georgia has signed an association agreement with the European Union (EU) in Brussels, Belgium.

The agreement was signed by Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili, President of the European Council Herman Van Rompuy and European Commission Jose Manuel Barroso.

Along with Georgia, Ukraine and Moldova also signed this agreement.

The government heads of all 28 EU member states signed the document.

The signing ceremony was broadcasted by several Georgian TV companies.

"Georgia returns to its natural environment - Europe," Garibashvili said.

"Many generations of Georgians had this dream and I'm glad that our generation made this dream come true," he stressed.

Rompuy and Barroso, for their part, pointed out that this is not only a signing of a document, but also a new stage in Georgia's development, which is of great importance for the EU as well.

They underscored that this is the beginning of the path of Georgia's integration into EU.

Now the agreement is to be ratified by the parliaments of Georgia, Ukraine and Moldova.
