Tbilisi court doesn’t grant prosecutor’s office requirement against city’s ex-mayor

Tbilisi, Georgia, July 2

By Nana Kirtzkhalia - Trend:

Tbilisi city court has rejected the prosecutor's office requirement to apply a preventive measure against the ex-mayor of Tbilisi, Gigi Ugulava.

The prosecutor's office, bringing new charges with regard to the company City Park, accused Ugulava of embezzling one million Georgian laris ($600,000).

It also demanded to set bail at 50,000 laris ($30,000) and take away Ugulava's passport and ID card, so that he could not leave the country.

The judge found the prosecutor's office requirements to be excessive, and besides, Ugulava himself promised not to leave Georgia, and he has already been bailed out on the other charges.
