Palestinian Ambassador to Lebanon Ashraf Dabbour considered on Monday that a security plan set to kick off at the southern Ain el-Hilweh refugee camp aims at maintaining peace and stability in Palestinian camps and the brotherly ties with the Lebanese, Naharnet reported.

"The reorganization of the security forces in Ain el-Hilweh is directly followed by Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas," Dabbour said in an interview with As Safir newspaper.

The ambassador pointed out that the Palestinian factions are coordinating their endeavors with the political leaders and prominent figures in the southern city of Sidon, who are staunch supporters of stability inside the camp.

He revealed that the Palestinian security forces that will deploy in Ain el-Hilweh are comprised of various factions, mainly Fatah movement.

The diplomat told the daily that all security members underwent rehabilitation and training sessions at the Palestinian refugee camp of al-Rashidiyeh in the southern city of Tyre.

"The security forces will be supported by other forces in the camp in case any incident occurred."

Dabbour said that 52-year-old Brig. Khaled al-Shayeb will lead the forces.

On Saturday, Palestinian factions in Lebanon agreed to start the deployment of Palestinian security forces in Ain el-Hilweh as of Tuesday.

The security forces comprising 150 troops will deploy in four fixed positions, which are the vegetable market area, al-Barksat (in the northern part of the camp), al-Safsaf-al-Shohadaa mosque region and the Bustan al-Yahoud area.

The ambassador said that the Palestinian Fatah delegation chief, Azzam al-Ahmed, followed up the logistic arrangements of the security force during a short visit to Lebanon last week.

"He [al-Ahmed] followed up the matter closely ahead of a full deployment for the forces in the remaining refugee camps," Dabbour said in his remarks to As Safir.

He stressed that the Palestinians are committed to "Lebanon's sovereignty, stability and security."

"As temporary guests in Lebanon and until we return to our land we will fortify the ties with the state and its people."

Located near the southern city of Sidon, Ain el-Hilweh is the largest Palestinian camp in the country and is home to about 50,000 refugees.

It is known to harbor extremists and fugitives.

Tension frequently surges in the camp as a result of armed disputes between the different Palestinian factions.
