A skirmish took place on the Kyrgyz-Tajik border between the border guards of the two countries, ITAR-TASS reported.

The shooting occurred in the Tamdyk area of Kyrgyz's Batken region, Kyrgyz Border Service told the agency.

The shootout was provoked by Tajik citizens unlawfully attempting to build pipeline from Tajikistan to the Tajik enclave of Vorukh, which is surrounded by Kyrgyz territory, the Kyrgyz party said.

Kyrgyzstan border guards arrived at the site and demanded "to stop all work," but were stoned in response, Kyrgyz Border Service said.

"So they were forced to fire warning shots in the air," the service said.

A nearby Tajik border detachment arrived on the scene and opened fire on their Kyrgyz colleagues, the Kyrgyz Border Service affirmed.

A skirmish ensued as a result, the service said.

No one was wounded or injured among the Kyrgyz border guards, according to preliminary data. There is no data concerning losses among Tajik soldiers.

The border authorities of the two countries plan "to hold a meeting in order to avoid conflict escalation", Kyrgyz Border Service said.
