The results of the activities aimed at protection of the Uzbek-Kyrgyz state border in the first half of 2014 and the promising areas of development of the bilateral relations were discussed between the border services of the two countries.

The talks were held between the delegations from the Regional Staff of Border Guards 'East' of the State Border Protection Committee of Uzbekistan's National Security Service and the Border Management in Osh and Jalal-Abad regions of Kyrgyzstan's State Border Service.

The meeting that was held in the city of Fargana, Uzbekistan, was attended by the regional heads of the border services and commanders of the military units of the two countries, directly involved in the protection of the Uzbek-Kyrgyz state border, the State Border Protection Committee of Uzbekistan's National Security Service said.

"The representatives of the border services discussed the topical and problematic issues in the sphere of state border protection, ensuring the safe operation of the facilities located on the border zone, as well as the tasks on countering and preventing crimes at the state border," the committee said.

The total length of the Uzbek-Kyrgyz border is 1,378 kilometers. Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan have already delimited 1,058 kilometers along the boundaries. The parties are to delimitate over 350 kilometers long section of the state border.

The intensive talks on delimitation and demarcation of the Uzbek-Kyrgyz state border have been going on since late 2013 due to recent repeated conflicts on the two countries' common borders.

The experts authorized by the governments of Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan have worked out the draft agreement on the Uzbek-Kyrgyz state border.

The experts of the two countries' foreign ministries believe the main difficulty in the talks is the presence of four Uzbek enclaves in Kyrgyzstan and one Kyrgyz enclave in Uzbekistan.
