Kazakh, Tajik, Turkmen presidents won’t take part in CIS Chisinau summit

The presidents of Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan will not take part in the CIS Chisinau summit on October 9, head of the Moldovan Foreign Affairs and European Integration protocol department Alexei Cracan told Itar-Tass on Tuesday.

"Prime ministers will represent Kazakhstan and Tajikistan at the summit, while Turkmenistan will be represented with a vice-premier," he said.

There will be 20 items on the agenda of the Chisinau summit, including a more intensive joint response to the world financial crisis, deeper humanitarian and security integration and preparations for the 65th anniversary of the end of the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945.

Tajik President Emomali Rakhmon will not take part in the CIS Chisinau summit on October 9, a source at the Tajik presidential office told Itar-Tass earlier in the day.

Prime Minister Akil Akilov will represent Tajikistan at the summit, he said. "There is no political motive for that, no matter what the media may allege," the source added. "Simply, the president has a different visit on that day's agenda."

Rakhmon will pay a working visit to Turkmenistan.
