Nurlan Nigmatulin has been elected as Chairman of the Majilis (lower chamber of Kazakh Parliament) at a meeting of the first session of the new parliament.
Since November 2009, he has served as First Deputy Chairman of the People's Democratic Party "Nur Otan".
Nigmatulin was born in 1962 in Karaganda. He graduated from the Karaganda Polytechnic Institute. He is Doctor of Political Sciences.
He also served as Deputy Mayor of Astana, Deputy Minister of Transport and Communications, Deputy Head of Presidential Administration of Kazakhstan, major of Karaganda region.
