Railroad cargo transportion tariffs will increase in price by 15 percent in Kazakhstan from April, 1, Kazakhstan Temir Zholy (KTZ) reported on Friday. Rail network services will rise in price by 9.6 percent.

"The tariffs are rising due to the need to realize modernization and renewal of the production assets of the railway industry: the main network, carriages and locomotives fleet envisaged by the transport infrastructure development program in the Republic of Kazakhstan for 2010-2014 approved by the Governmental Resolution," the company reported.

According to the program, rail fares should be annually increased by average 15 percent and some loans should be attracted to satisfy the KTZ investments needs. The company plans to increase investments in modernization and renewal of railway infrastructure from 87 billion in 2009 up to 382 billion tenge in 2012.

In 2012 the company plans to overhaul 668 km of road, complete electrification of 46 km of road in Kostanay - Zheleznorudniy section, acquire and modernize 15,753 rail carriages and 188 locomotives, including 70 diesel locomotives of domestic production.
