Workers of Kazakh gold mining company Kazakhaltyn went on strike in the city of Stepnogorsk, Novosti-Kazakhstan reported referring to the city's prosecutor's office.
The workers are demanding to raise their wages.
"The Prosecutor of the city of Stepnogorsk left to Bestobe village, where the strike takes place. We have no other information on the incident," the prosecutor's office said.
The Interior Department confirmed that about 50 workers of the Kazakhaltyn company are on strike demanding higher wages.
Kazakhaltyn is part of the Polyus Gold International Ltd through KazakhGold. The main production activities of the Kazakhaltyn company are Bestyube, Aksu and Zholymbet fields.
