Kazakh delegation headed by the Permanent Representative of Kazakhstan to the United Nations in Geneva, Ambassador Mukhtar Tleuberdi took part in an international conference on the problems of health and safety which was held on September 5-6.
The main focus of the delegates was the development of partnership, prevention of and combating the spread of biological threats. The organizers of this event were the U.S. administration and a number of international organizations, the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan said.
Delivering a keynote address on the first day of the conference, U.S. Deputy Secretary of Defense Andrew Weber praised the contribution of Kazakhstan and personally President Nursultan Nazarbayev to ensuring global security, and the promotion of disarmament and non-proliferation. Among the many achievements of Kazakhstan Weber highlighted the decision of the head of state of complete liquidation of the infrastructure for the production of biological weapons, which Kazakhstan inherited from the former Soviet Union.
The U.S. politician also expressed his gratitude for the fruitful bilateral cooperation and support for strengthening and development of both regional and universal mechanisms to prevent the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, including biological weapons.
