Kazakhstan is interested in further strengthening the cooperation with the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, chairman of the Senate of the Parliament of Kazakhstan Kairat Mami said during the meeting with OSCE Secretary General Lamberto Zannier on Thursday, the Senate said.
Zannier arrived in Kazakhstan to attend the anniversary meeting of the Foreign Ministers of the Member States of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA).
During the meeting, Mami said that the visit "will give a further impetus to the development and strengthening of cooperation between Kazakhstan and the OSCE."
He added that Kazakhstan considers OSCE as an important component of modern architecture of international security and expressed interest "in the further development of constructive cooperation with the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly."
Zannier said OSCE attaches great importance to strengthening inter-parliamentary relations of the member states, and also noted that "there is untapped potential for closer cooperation."
The institutional development of the OSCE, elimination of the imbalance between the three dimensions of the organization, development of a common methodology for election observation by ODIHR were also discussed during the meeting. The sides also touched upon the issues of strengthening cooperation in the efforts to rebuild Afghanistan.
