The General Prosecutor's Office of Kazakhstan has initiated a criminal case on a plane crash in Kazakhstan, the press service of the Prosecutor's Office reported.

A Chellenger-200 aircraft belonging to SCAT airlines operating on the Kokshetau-Almaty route crashed at 13:00, January 29, 2013, about five kilometres from the airport of Almaty.

According to preliminary data, five crew members and 15 passengers were on board.

Representatives of the General Transport Prosecutor's Office and Interior Ministry, as well as Emergency Situations Ministry were sent to the scene to conduct investigation and emergency rescue measures. The scene has been cordoned off.

Details of the incident, as well as information about those killed and injured are currently being confirmed.
