Kazakhstan and Great Britain discuss military cooperation

Kazakh Defence Minister Adilbek Dzhaksybekov has received the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United Kingdom to Kazakhstan Carolyn Brown, the press service of the Defense Ministry reported.

During the meeting, the parties discussed the current state and prospects of development of Kazakh-British military cooperation, in particular the withdrawal of NATO troops from Afghanistan and Kazakh military involvement in UN peacekeeping missions.

"As part of strengthening stability and security in the world, Kazakhstan intends to send its peacekeeping unit on a UN mission. Accordingly, the Ministry of Defence is preparing a Kazakh peacekeeping unit and is working on the legal framework for participation of Kazakh citizens in UN missions," Adilbek Dzhaksybekov said.

Carolyn Brown, in turn, stressed that the United Kingdom appreciates the combat readiness of the Armed Forces of Kazakhstan and will provide full support to the Kazakhstan Peacekeeping Brigade KAZBRIG in possible participation in peacekeeping operations.

The minister thanked the British soldiers, who have participated in the special tactical peacekeeping exercise 'Steppe Eagle - 2012'.
