Shadow alcohol sales hit 60 percent in Kazakhstan, Chairman of the Agency for Combating Economic Crimes and Corruption Zhanat Elimanov said today, the Kazakh Central Communication Service for the President reported.
"The worst situation is in those regions where alcohol manufacturers are either officially inactive or report marginal turnover," Elimanov said at a briefing on Tuesday.
According to Elimanov, the illegal activity of five plants producing unrecorded alcohol has been prevented since early last year.
Totally, 392 violations were revealed in the country in this period. Over 7 million bottles were seized. As a result, the amount of excise payments to the budget increased by 20 percent reaching 23 billion tenge (153.38 tenge = $1) in the past year and alcohol production increased by 15 percent. This fact means that alcohol producers register its real volumes of production, Elimanov said.
