Strengthening of the Tajik-Afghan border is vital for the Collective Security Treaty Organization, Kazakh Prime Minister Serik Akhmetov believes, Novosti-Kazakhstan reported.

"The growing instability in Afghanistan and intensification of Taliban activity forces us to think and seriously prepare for the possible negative situations in Central Asia after 2014," Akhmetov said at the CSTO meeting in Sochi (Russia).

According to Kazakh Prime Minister, the Tajik-Afghan border will remain in difficult situation.

"The border strengthening is vital for the CSTO," he said.

According to Akhmetov, Kazakhstan assesses the geopolitical situation in the area of ​​responsibility in the CSTO and the whole world as a very complicated.

The political tensions in the Middle East and North Africa pose potential risks for the region, he said.
